Commissions

Hi, Im Sally Herbert, I head up my small family based comtemporary Jewellery business HerbertandWilks Jewellery. You will find us in Mt Eden, Auckland.

Meet the Designer and Maker - Sally Herbert

Part of our work is centred around unique commissioned pieces, but I do want to add that not every commission is a ring!

Our commission work ranges from engagement and wedding rings where Anton and I work together,  to statement chains, Cuffs, signet rings, organic bands, and earrings for celebrating significant life events and friendships. Over the years I have made many unique pieces. I love working directly with you to create unique, meaningful designs that tell your story.

We blend traditional and modern processes, which presents endless opportunities for what we can design and create for you. If you are after a special piece customised for you, I have set out below the usual steps we follow.

Step 1 Get in touch.

Either send me a direct message, email (sally@herbertandwilks.co.nz) or a short video outlining what you would like. Whether you have an existing idea or a bare concept, the type of metals, any gemstones or colours, this will give us an overview of the project, and from there, we can discuss the finer details. Don’t forget to include your name, time frame and contact information when sending your message.

With any project, it's better to get in touch as early as possible to ensure we are not rushed! This means we have time to develop the design, source the materials, and make the piece in good time.

Step 2 - Planning

With a basic outline, we can now meet either in person at my workshop in Mt Eden, Auckland, or virtually, whichever suits you.

In this meeting, we can start making rough sketches to develop your ideas and discuss what you like and don’t like, Size, materials and finishes.

If you are interested in a design with Gemstones, I will have some options available; otherwise, we can talk about colours and then look at the shapes and how the stones will sit on your hand or wrist.

Step 3 - Design

With the information discussed at our meeting, including the materials required, I will be able to price out your piece. I charge a 50% deposit prior to drawing up your design. Once I understand the materials and stones required from our planning appointment, I will be able to calculate the cost for your piece. My policy is to charge a 50% deposit prior to drawing up your design.

You will receive either a drawn sketch or an accurate computer-aided design (CAD) drawing so you can envision your bespoke piece before it is created.

We can then make any adjustments needed to finalise the design.

Step 4 - Sourcing & Creation

This step is all about bringing your design to life! Firstly, any raw materials will be sourced.  Depending on your design, it may be entirely handcrafted or made using CAD technology alongside handcrafting, finishing, and setting.

Once it is complete, your bespoke piece will be wrapped up, and we will arrange a pick-up or delivery. It's that simple!

Are you ready to start your own personalised design process? Do you have an upcoming engagement, wedding, or significant life event on the horizon? I would love to work with you!
