More About Sapphires

The Birthstone of September, and are used to mark the 5th, 45th and 65th Wedding Anniversaries. Sapphires literally come in a vibrant range of colours apart from pure red - because if they are red, they are called Rubies!

Sapphires are most famously blue, my favourite colour is Teal. The Latin work “saphirus” simply means “blue”. The ancient Persians believed that the world rested on a sapphire, hence the blue of the sky.

Sapphires are thought of as a protective stone, symbols of intuition, nobility, truth and faithfulness.

The durability of the Sapphire makes it a lovely precious stone to work with and works beautifully with Silver, Gold or Platinum. With the addition of Sapphires in the design it allows me to create truly special pieces that will last a life time and beyond. Their durability makes them perfect for everyday wear, which is something I look for in my work.

Sapphires are found around the world, with the sapphires I use at HerbertandWilks Jewellery predominantly coming from either Sri Lanka or Australia.

Some of my favourite HerbertandWilks Jewellery pieces that include Sapphires are the Nebula Gem Sleeper Earrings and the Single Sapphire Stacker Rings. Sapphires are also available in my one of a kind pieces.
